The traditional Norwegian kransekake with firecrackers and flags is popular for high holy days and other celebrations. I made my first kransekake from scratch in 2013 in the US to surprise my husband and my American family at our state-side wedding reception/picnic. I use whole almonds and grind them myself and use only the best egg whites and powdered sugar. I do occassionally use a tablespoon of flour to help with the shaping but if you need it to be gluten free I can forego the flour.
